A classic stop-motion animated Easter TV special starring Vincent Price.
Broadcast on ABC-TV in 1971, Here Comes Peter Cottontail is the sort of innocent animated special that you just won’t see any more. Based on both the 1957 novel The Easter Bunny That Overslept by Priscilla and Otto Friedrich and the Easter song Here Comes Peter Cottontail – itself lifted from a series of books by Thornton W. Burgess – this Rankin-Bass production tells the story of Peter’s plan to be the new Chief Easter Bunny and the nefarious plans of January Q. Irontail to thwart his plans and destroy Easter as revenge for losing his tail after being run over by some feckless kid. We’re with Irontail, frankly.
With a cast including Danny Kaye, Casey Kasem and Vincent Price (as the villainous Irontail, of course), this is twee, bizarre and amusing – good fun for all the family, at least in comparison to any current Easter offerings.
