Taking place in Nottingham (where such events would doubtless be subject to furious Woke protest and moralising council restrictions these days), this promotional event was officially to find the ideal legs to display nylons in – that being a very specific 20 inch thighs, 13½ calves and 8 inch ankles. More accurately, the reason for the contest was to promote nylon stockings – and provide British Pathé with some amusing news footage.
First prize in the contest was a whopping £5 and a dozen pairs of stockings.
