Nicolas Winding Rein – the director behind films like The Neon Demon and Only God Forgives – has launched his much-anticipated pop cultural, curated film, writing and art website ByNWR. On the site, you can find monthly collections of works, including several complete movies that can all be viewed for free.
To quote the site: “born from a passion for the rare, the forgotten and unknown, byNWR breathes new life into the culturally intriguing, influential and extreme.” this means, to begin with, work curated by Jimmy McDonough, who is a renowned expert in such material, and in September, a collection put together by Little White Lies magazine. So a mixed bag of cultural awareness, you might say. McDonough’s selection, Regional Renegades, includes the movies The Nest of the Cuckoo Birds, Hot Thrills and Warn Chills and Shanty Tramp – all of which ought to make you sign up immediately.
Refn has put his money where his mouth is when it comes to cult cinema before, buying rare Andy Milligan titles and being responsible for the BFI’s release of Nightbirds, and so it’s great to see this new platform for fans of the outrageous and the unusual.
