Sensations – Listen To The Groovy 1970s Euro Porn Soundtrack

Sensations

Lasse Braun’s 1975 film Sensations was the first porn film that I ever saw. Talk about starting at the top! Shot for $250,000, the film was – appropriately – the sensation of the 1975 Cannes Film Festival, and remains one of the most ambitiously impressive (and relentlessly kinky) adult movies ever made. It was so good, Braun actually used his real name, Alberto Ferro, on the director credit.

It’s also very Seventies – the fashions, the hair, the freewheeling attitudes, the cocaine… and the music. Oh, the music. Often credited to Richard Moore, it was actually the work of Falcon Stuart (his name appears on the opening titles), an artist and filmmaker who had worked with Braun on the porn documentary Penetration / French Blue, and who would later manage X-Ray Spex, Adam Ant, Danielle Dax and Classix Nouveaux, as well as founding the indie record label Awesome Records.

Shortly before Stuart’s death in 2002, I was working with a record label on a projected series of porn film soundtrack CDs, and I’d convinced them that Sensations was the one to go for. Stuart was very much up for a re-release – the soundtrack had been released on LP in 1975, but didn’t have wide circulation, and is now very hard to find. Unfortunately, low sales of the first release – music from Michael Ninn’s Latex and Shock – saw the project abruptly cancelled.

Thankfully, someone has put highlights from the soundtrack – six tracks in one stream of consciousness file – on Soundcloud. Listen, enjoy and hope that some day, someone – maybe  – can get the whole score back out there. And if anyone has a copy they’d like to sell for a reasonable price, get in touch…
