We wouldn’t usually be remotely excited at the prospect of a new superhero film – not even an animated one, and they tend to be better than their live-action equivalents. But when that film recreates the feel of the classic , high camp 1966 TV series – with the original stars – then you can sign us up to the excited crowd.
Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders reunites the best Batman and Robin – that’s Adam West and Burt Ward – in a story that sets out to capture the look and feel of the original series, as the dynamic duo battle the Joker, the Riddler, the Penguin and Catwoman – “on Earth and in space”. Also signed up to return is the best of the Catwoman actors, Julie Newmar.
Animation is obviously the best way of reviving old shows where the cast may still be with us, but no longer in the first flush of youth, and of course there has been a long tradition of animated Batman films that compliment / provide an alternative to the increasingly bloated live action films.
The film is released digitally on October 11th and on physical formats on November 1st. To the Batmobile!
