While strolling through Selfridges yesterday, we encountered a whole new perfume department – like a little boutique within the bigger store, the walls painted an elegant shade of grey with nuances of copper, and full of delights for the perfumista.
The appearance of Frederic Malle’s Editions de Parfums was a real treat as always, and we loved finally trying on Ropion’s new oud The Night – one of the best ouds that we have discovered so far, wild and animalistic – just as it should be – and going on forever, drying down to a divine leathery note.
There are plenty of other brands that you can find here too – Miller Harris, Cire Trudon, The Avery, Ormonde Jayne, Gri Gri (a new French brand inspired by the ancient art of tattooing), Olfactive Studio (an old favourite of ours) and Diptyque, amongst various others.
The biggest storm since its launch on Monday came from TFK – The Fragrance Kitchen – the brand created in 2005 by Kuwaiti based Shiekh Majed Al-Sabah. The brand will be exclusive to Selfridges and a new perfume has been created to celebrate this called Spike Odyssey – supposedly inspired by in equal parts Stanley Kubrick and David Bowie.
There is only a small part of the full collection here, but it is still immense. However, we were ever so slightly underwhelmed by it – it’s very nice but not exactly out of this world. That said, the new department is a certainly a welcome addition to the West End.
